Building Department & Code Enforcement

The Town of Gardiner is seeking a Part-Time Building Inspector. 

The Part-Time Building Inspector will assist the Full-Time Building Inspector with building inspections and related duties in accordance with established procedures set by the county. Position involves the inspection of new construction and existing structures, review of various plans, specifications, application materials, the issuance of building permits and certificates of occupancy, and related work as required. 

Good knowledge of and experience with modern building practices, principles, and materials is helpful, along with excellent communication skills, excellent ability to read building plans, reading comprehension, writing skills, people skills, and physical fitness as the Building Inspector must visit various job sites in different stages of construction.

When hiring for this position, preference will be given to applicants with specialization in construction management and technology and building trade. Training and certification may be required. Hours

The Building Inspector / Code Enforcement Officer is in Monday - Thursday from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

The Building Department Clerk is in Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and Thursday from 9:00am - 1:00pm.

Building Department is CLOSED on Fridays.

Gardiner Local Law regulates and restricts the location, construction and use of buildings and structures and the use of land in Gardiner.

All questions should be directed to the Building Inspector's office. We encourage you to contact us if you have questions on requirements for home remodeling or site construction.

The Town of Gardiner enforces the N.Y.S. Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, as well as its local municipal code and zoning law, to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens of our town.
