Gardiner Appoints Ambassador of Peace and Justice

The Gardiner Town Board has appointed Councilman David Dukler to the newly-created position of Ambassador of Peace and Justice.

The role of the Ambassador is to ensure that incidents of bias, hate, bigotry and extremism are brought to the attention of the town and reported to the appropriate agencies, including the NYS Police, Ulster County Sheriff, the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center. The Ambassador may also organize educational programming consistent with the needs of the community and reported-to agencies.

Recent incidents of hate group signs in Majestic Park and other locations prompted the town board’s actions. Defamation incidents often know no municipal boundary, and by reporting them they can become known on a wider scale, monitored and tracked as a means of prevention for the community.
